Coole Sonnenbrillen an Schnauzbart.

The film doesn’t light any fires… the comedy is uni-dimensional. Almost from the beginning, the events and incidents revolve around the doctor’s attempts to get rid of Thenali, and how he survives each of these attempts. One such scene is very funny. Two: funny. Three: tolerable. But a dozen? It’s a bit like sitting down to a five-course meal — and finding that every single course is pudding — after a point, it begins to cloy…Technically, there is not much that is wrong with the film — good cinematography, neat editing, and so on. However, the music is lacklustre despite coming from A R Rehman –there is no song you recall or recount.

Idlebrain:

(Kamal Hassan) proved his versatility in his acting with his superb histrionics. He can make people cry by making them laugh… (Über Jyotika:) The newfound glamour doll of Tamilnadu dished out a feast for eyes with this film. No wonder, with an angelic face, childlike attitude, plump figure and fine assets, Jyotika will turnout to be the next Goddess for the Tamil people…. Viewers do not get bored though there is no story in this film… First half of the film is full of fun and frolic. The second half becomes little boring, as there is no story… This film is best recommended for the family viewing, where one can laugh their heart out for the laugh riot created by Kamal.

The Hindu:

A wholesome mix of rip-roaring action, witty dialogues and exotic locales… A. R. Rahman’s compositions include a couple of foot-tapping numbers

Fullhyd:

Silly, Chaplinesque kind of humour albeit supported by the rattling oral speech that Tamilians are adept at. It is a simple story, if at all there is a story in the first place… Tenali starts off well and you are treated to dollops and dollops of humour… But the director foolishly tries to continue the film in the same vein without having any plot… It is not a bad film, for it has some good comedy, but it is not a good film either, as it does not live up to the expectations built in the first half.

Lolluexpress:

I never thought that A.R. REHMAN can do such a bad job with his Music. After the movie was over i double checked if the music director was A.R. REHMAN, Big disappointment… I grade this movie as a Ordinary comedy movie and its worth movie to watch and laugh and forget and nothing special about to say.
